Some of the story is told by the people themselves - in letters, recollections, and oral interviews and in the documents they labored to create in order to recover some of the cash value of the assets they lost during the Mexican Revolution. They struggled for many years to be compensated for their years of sacrifice and hard work.

The Blalock Mexico Colonists invested their money and assets in the venture, and, more importantly, they invested their best years, their most productive years, trying to achieve a better life for themselves and their families. This American venture was officially considered a failure, not because the participants had been unsuccessful in their endeavor to create a productive, well managed colony and fruitful farming and ranching settlement, but their achievements were unexpectedly interrupted as they became caught in the middle of events they could not control.

Their American dream turned into a nightmare as the Mexican Revolution of 1910-20 impacted their daily lives, reversed their hard earned progress, and ultimately forced them to abandon their settlements and assets to flee for their very lives. Many fell into financial ruin as a result.

After the Revolution ended, some colonists returned to reclaim their property and rebuild their livelihood. Others never returned and their property was forfeited or sold.  During this resettlement period, new families joined the colony. Many colonists and their descendants have struggled over the past 100 years with agrarian uprisings to maintain ownership of their property. Today some descendents of the original Blalock Mexico Colonists still live in Chamal and continue to fight agrarian threats.
