This site chronicles the saga of hundreds of Americans who in 1903-04, emigrated from Greer County, Territory of Oklahoma, to Mexico, to establish an agricultural colony. These adventurers formed a stock corporation, the Blalock Mexico Colony and purchased 176,515 acres in Tamaulipas, Mexico, called Hacienda El Chamal.

The Story of the Blalock Mexico Colony is a story about people— about Americans, who formed a stock corporation in 1902, purchased a large tract of land in Tamaulipas, Mexico, called Hacienda El Chamal and left Greer County, Territory of Oklahoma, with most of their worldly goods to live as colonists in Mexico. It is an important story because it documents how American citizens tried to recreate the American pioneer dream on foreign soil at the invitation of a foreign government— the Porfirio Diaz regime. Although the story has never been recorded in its entirety, descendants have kept it alive for the past 108 years. Read more

line The Blalock Mexico Project is a collaborative effort by descendants of the Blalock Mexico Colony (BMC) to construct a detailed history of the Blalock Mexico Colony. The project is a work in progress. Historic accounts, documents and images will be added regularly to this site.

Our goal is to document this extraordinary colonization undertaking by digitally archiving, for future generations, the information that tells this incredible story. Read more
