OLD MEXICO COLONY

Geo. E. Blalock is Now Looking Up Another Tract of Land.

HE SAYS IT’S A BIG BARGAIN

By This Deal the Colony Is to Get 167,000 Acres of Land With Improvements, Stock, Etc. for $55,000.

It was announced several weeks ago that George Blalock, authorized agent of the Greer county colony that is seeking a location in old Mexico, had closed a deal for a 113,000 acre ranch, but the announcement was a little premature.  Mr. Blalock had bargained for the property, but when he came to look up the title he found the amount of land fell short several thousand acres so the deal was not closed.  He has since been looking up another ranch and has found one a hundred miles north of the former place which he says is a better bargain than the former one even if that had contained the full amount of land as represented.

A letter received by J.L. Sweet from Mr. Blalock on Tuesday of this week says the new property he is now examining contains 167,000 acres of land, 200 cattle, 40 mules, 15 to 20 horses, 20 miles of fence, one four-room house, five three-room houses, five two-room and eight one-room houses.  The price agreed upon is $55,000 – one-half cash, balance in two years.  He has put up $6,000 option money pending the examination of title, etc.  Mr. Blalock writes that a new railroad is to be built through the ranch.

The colony is now composed of fifty-three members and meetings are held in Mangum each Saturday afternoon.
