From an old peon, who lives on the estate in Mexico that the Greer county colony has bought. Rev. Talley learned that the last battle that took place between the Mexicans and the French soldiers, that had come over to sustain the government of the ill fated Maxmillion (sic) was fought on El Chamal, the estate mentioned. The Mexicans were victorious and many Frenchmen were killed and the balance were taken to a seaport and shopped back to France.
Claud Blalock and Miss Willie Head were married at the Methodist parsonage last Sunday afternoon at four o’clock, Rev. W.H. Roper officiating. A strong suspicion had existed for some time that their marriage would materialize soon, as Claud expects to go to Mexico with the colonists, and a seemingly inseparable attachment existed between them. The groom is a son of Geo. E. Blalock, president of the Mexico colony, and for a year or more was engaged in the mercantile business here, but sold out last summer. The bride is a very pretty little lady, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W.H. Head, who live about three miles north of town.
The SUN-MONITOR joins a host of friends in wishing them happiness in their new state and prosperity in the proposed new home. |
