It was awhile in the mountains and after the occupation of Chamal and surrounding points by General Loros. An envoy of G.T. Ingram and Everett Storms paid a visit to General Loros, then at Ocampo, West of Chamal 12 Miles. It was also after being invited by Loros to join his forces and assist in fighting back the Carranzistas. We had received invitations to come back home and to our property and he would protect us (as long as he could) I might add, so long as it suited him best; it being about the 20th of July 1916, when they started and on the day of the 22nd, were there and in close conference with the General and had verbally made a conquest and dined with the General himself and all promises had been made them; that the Americans receive back all horses they might have of theirs and protection to their wives, children and themselves, etc., until 10:00 p.m. when our boys returned for the night. Good Lovoistas! At 4 a.m. on the following morning, they were suddenly awakened by shots fired in rapidity and the whistling of bullets uncomfortably close by. They did nothing rash just covered themselves in the thin carpet on hotel floor and waited paitently for the firing to ceased. It was the Carranzistas who had talked back and were fighting the Lovoistas who had refused to join them. The fight being over, the Lovoistas being killed and gone, who sould our boys next become friendly with but the Carranzistas General and in ten hours from the tender cares of Lovoistas were closeted men making medicine and dining with the Carranzista Ceneral. A quick turn for an American though nothing for a Mexican to do. No evidence being found on them that thay had lately been on such friendly terms with the Lovoistas, all went well. If Confab between them and the former guest not being known by the latter, it would hardly do to even conjecture the results. |
